It's All About Compromise

I had previously said I only wanted a civil ceremony, very possibly at the reception venue, but the look on my mom's face said that I really needed to budge a little on this and find some other venue. While I'm not completely against a church wedding, or even pre-marital counseling, I am opposed to having to attend the church regularly for any period of time prior to the wedding.

Last week we had a breakthrough.

About 11 blocks from our reception venue, we found a nondenominational interfaith chapel! Weeeeee! I looked at it today and it's great. I put a hold on it immediately and intend to send in the deposit as soon as I receive the forms and such in the mail. Full disclosure in a week or two.

Centerpiece Inspiration

One of the big reasons Dude and I chose the venue we did was because it looks nice on its own. I like the idea of getting raw space, but if I had to worry about decorating it myself and coordinating, I'd just as well jump ship and hightail it to City Hall. We are all about LOW MAINTENANCE WEDDING. A paradox, maybe.

But the drawback with my venue is that we only have 2 hours to do whatever decorating we have to before cocktail hour starts. So the key to everything has to be simple.

I'm thinking candles surrounded by picture frames of us with our guests sitting at that table. Could also double as favors.

I'm a Copycat

Here's what I have so far in terms of images and such that I like

Some More Crazy Questions

This installment of Crazy Questions is brought to you by a crazy stressful day/week at work.
  1. What is the difference between a place card and an escort card? (Not that I'm having either, but I was just curious.)
  2. What the F is a decolletage? Is that just boobies? WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST SAY BOOBIES?!

The Tasting

We had the tasting for our venue tonight. It was amazing. Granted, the food won't be as good at the actual wedding, but even if it were only 60% as good, it would still be good food.

The highlight was actually this salad that was a mesclun salad with pears, candied pecans, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and a cranberry vinaigrette. It didn't sound that great, but as soon as we tasted it, we were floored.

All in all, we got to try 20 dishes. Very very tasty dishes.

They were going to charge us for the tasting but refund the money as soon as we sign the contract, which was going to be okay with us. But when we were done they completely comped the whole thing, even the four glasses of wine that we ordered.

The couple sitting next to us chatted us up a bit when they were finished, and the lady told me that she holds 4-6 dinners at another venue (that is catered by the same chef and staff and event management) every year, and that she's never had a bad experience.

That pretty much seals the deal for us with our venue. We are going to sign the contract very very soon.

Other Wedding Eccentricities

Why is it that all the models wearing bridal gowns are positioned in a slutty manner? Isn't that, like, counter intuitive?

And.... we have a photographer!

Again, I'll fully disclose once we've signed the contract, but he's (relatively) cheap and will give us all the images on CD/DVD for our own printing.

Suck on that, theknot.com.
