A bunch of my friends have all had the same complaint about their boyfriend/fiance/husband, and I feel like it's a widespread complaint among my lady friends and I don't really understand why.
Seriously, everybody. What is the big deal about your man leaving the toilet seat up? I am not being snarky. I really want to know. Is it that big a deal to look where you sit your naked butt to make sure you don't fall in? Isn't it just general good practice to look before you sit? Isn't you leaving the toilet seat down just as bad as him leaving it up?
Growing up, I always heard this complaint in TV shows and jokes, but it wasn't until very recently that I realized that it's real, that it really drives people crazy. My mom and dad definitely never argued about it, and I know my dad leaves the toilet seat up. My friend told me she once had a screaming fight over it. Really?
It's just a toilet seat! It's not like he left a huge pile of turds unflushed!
Granted, I've only been living with Dude for a little over a year so maybe it just hasn't annoyed me yet? Tell me, please. Inquiring minds want to know.

I do not understand this either. Are women backing onto the toilet?
Anyway, I just tagged you!

I didn't think it was a big deal either, and in fact I always swore never to be one of those women nagging about the toilet seat.
Then once I wasn't paying attention and the seat was up and I fell in.
I think I'm still pretty good about not nagging - and now always, always, double checking - but I can see how if you fall in enough times you get mad enough to fight over it.
@jessica - meme coming soon
@laura - i fell in the toilet once when i woke up in the middle of the night to go, so i totally understand. but it's a two way street - i'm sure Dude has woken up in the middle of the night and has had to lift the seat. i guess i don't understand why i hear more women complaining about the toilet seat up than men complaining about the toilet seat being left down.
If the seat is up, it is more evident that it needs cleaned. Does the guy or girl care more about how clean the toilet is?
If he does, and he'll clean it more often, you're a lucky girl; otherwise, you are more likely to fall into a dirty situation.
@anon - thanks for stopping by! it's not really the cleanliness of the toilet that i'm concerned about, because i'm pretty OCD about the toilet. all i'm saying is, having the guy look to see if the toilet is down is just as much work as having the lady look to see if the toilet seat is up. why is it such a big deal to look before sitting?
You've been awarded the "Uber Amazing Blog Award" by yours truly (yeah, I know.) If you'd like to pass on this prestigious honor, check out the deets on my blog :)
The more you fall into the toilet, the more you will change your mind about this. AND...
Come on girls. Use common sense. It's not an us vs them thing, it's just common sense: seats up, they don't pee on our seat; seats down, we don't sit on their pee.
@future MIL - common sense, exactly. but that's why i don't understand why i will change my mind about this.
common sense says, i fall in the toilet, i blame ME, not him. just like he pees on the seat, he blames HIMSELF, not me. so why is it such a big deal?
